In 1988 the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) were passed to ensure the safety and quality of human specimens that are used for health assessment in labs across America.
Every two years the Department of Health and Human Services inspects Analytical Research Labs under CLIA specifications, and if they meet or exceed these rigorous requirements, they are awarded CLIA certification.
